Wild Arbor Assamica Red 2 oz
This mouthwatering hong cha, or black tea (red tea in China), is made entirely of Spring 2019 "Daye" or Camellia var. assamica leaf, the ancestor of modern day Camellia sinensis var. sinensis that is grown all over the world. This large leaf variety grows on arbor trees many decades old, lending their characteristic "cha chi" or tea energy to the cup. Daye varietal is of course used exclusively in making Yunnan's famous puerh tea, but has been crafted into a black tea by the locals to enjoy for some time.
Dry leaf aroma is brown sugar, malted buscuit, and chocolate that translate into the tea soup with added complex, savory mineral and picholine olive notes. Notice the rich, bittersweet anchor that will help it stand up to aging for several years, transforming into more fruity, possible floral notes over time. Simao, Yunnan, China.
One of our daily drinkers that feels like a reward in every cup!
